Happy belated Valentine’s Day!

I’m a day late for a valentine’s day post. We made a few fun food items, I still wanted to share with everyone!

We had another snow day on Monday so, we decorated some heart shaped sugar cookies with royal icing. I made the cookie dough in the morning and chilled it for only an hour before we cut them out and started decorating.

I’m pretty sure you are supposed to chill the dough for at least three hours, but who has time for that?  It also didn’t seem to affect the cookies so, that’s good to know!

On Valentine’s Day, we made heart shaped pizza’s. I have often make dough from scratch, but I’m not great at rolling out the dough. I usually schedule from scratch pizza night’s for the weekend when Dad is home to be rolling out the dough, he’s much better at it than I am. Since he wouldn’t be home early enough, I opted for the Pillsbury’s thin crust premade pizza dough. It’s easy to roll out, and  I was able to cut the dough into a decent heart shape!!

I feel very comfortable with the labeling of Pillsbury food items. I did call a few years ago, and I felt confident with how they labeled in regards to food allergies. I haven’t called on the topic recently  If I do, I will let you know.

I also had the kids make a few mini heart shaped pizza’s using the same cookie cutter we used on our cookies. I let them add the sauce and the cheese which they loved!

Holidays can be tough in regards to food allergies, so many of our celebrations revolve around food. Luckily, at my son’s school, they aren’t allowed to pass out any valentine’s that contain food items… At least, I have one less thing to stress about.

We bought some safe valentine themed candies from Vermont Nut Free Chocolates. I am not affiliated with Vermont Nut Free Chocolates, but we do really love their products. They can be a little more expensive than chocolate you find at the drugstore, but everything has been delicious and if you are looking for a nut-free treat, you can’t go wrong. I’m pretty sure, I bought the candies for myself more than the kids, because I love being able to eat the chocolate caramel pretzels worry free!

Unlike, Valentine’s Day pre-kids it’s not just about us as a couple, it’s also about showing the kids we love each other, and to show them we love them.  I told them how they should know we love them every day, it’s just nice to have a special day to celebrate it.

I tried to tell them how the holiday isn’t about flowers, cards, candies, it’s just about showing and telling those around you that you care about them.

Hopefully, the kids got my point despite, the chocolates and flowers we bought for them 🙂

  • I am working on posting recipes. If anyone is interested, I will post the nut free sugar cookie recipe when I can figure it out how to add the recipe plug in!!
